Douglas County Judge James Gleason ruled against the Union in it's attempt to stop the City's budget process.

The Fire Department had asked Mayor Jean Stothert for nearly $96 million in 2014. Mayor Stothert compromise at just more than $90 million, which was a several million increase over last year.

The Union filed the suit claiming the budget compromised public safety.  Judge Gleason ruled that claim was premature because the City Council has yet to vote on the budget.

In a statement released from Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Stothert said "We are pleased with the decision."  Stothert also said "not only do we agree with Judge Gleason that the Fire Union's action was premature, we did not think that there was any merit to the allegations."

The City Council will vote on the budget August 27th.
