The eastbound lanes of I-80 between the Missouri River and the South Expressway exit in Council Bluffs reopened Thursday morning.

Iowa Department officials said a portion of the interstate shoulder collapsed while construction crews were installing a pipe under the roadway.

Construction crews discovered a void that ran under the roadway so they needed to close the interstate.

Nebraska eastbound drivers were forced to cross from the Nebraska side into Iowa via I-680 or by going south to the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
