Now that the school year is over, Omaha Public Schools and Hiland Dairy have teamed up to donate 22-thousand cartons of left over milk to the Open Door Mission.

That milk would generally be returned to Hiland Dairy and thrown away. On Wednesday the milk was donated to the Mission.

Shelter officials say this is enough milk for eleven days of meals for men, women and children. The Open Door Mission serves 10-thousand households through their food pantry program every month.
