The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and local emergency managers along the South Platte River urged residents in the area to prepare for the possibility of flooding as early as Tuesday.

Heavy rain in Colorado has closed highways, and emergency managers want Nebraskans to be prepared if rivers downstream overflow their banks.

“It's very possible with the amount of rain Colorado has experienced, and the predictions for continued rain along the South Platte River, that Nebraska could experience flooding next week,” NEMA's Earl Imler said.

Local emergency managers ask that businesses along the South Platte prepare for possible flooding by moving equipment out of low-lying areas.
