Driver Pleads Guilty To Deadly Crash

An 82-year-old La Vista woman has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in connection with a March crash that killed a bicyclist.

Ruth Jeffers entered her plea Wednesday morning in a Douglas County courtroom. Investigators say Jeffers swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of her.  She crossed the center line near 260th and West Center Road and hit 56-year-old Jim Johnston.

He later died at a hospital. Johnston was a former Millard West teacher.  Jeffers faces up to one year in jail or up to two years of probation when she's sentenced in August.
