Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer believes increasing the Crimestoppers reward amount for serious violent crimes can be a game changer when it comes to getting criminals off the streets.
$25-thousand will now be offered for tips that lead to a murder arrest. Tips that lead to an arrest of a gun crime where no one is killed will be worth $10-thousand.
The previous amount through Crimestoppers was $1-thousand. The reward is being offered for any current or past crimes. Tipsters can call 444-STOP and remain anonymous. They will be given a code word and, if an arrest is made, they are required to call back to provide a bank location.
Tips can also be sent to omahacrimestoppers.net or by texting OPD and the tip to CRIMES (274637)
Several families of murder victims attended Wednesday's news conference to show support for the new reward amount.
