The American Red Cross says 18 units were damaged in the fire leaving 80 people without a place to live.   The two alarm fire broke out around 8:00 south of 96th and Q.

Many of the Applewood Pointe residents had to run out of the building and leave all of their belongings behind.  Some escaped without shoes on.

Firefighters tried battling the blaze twice from inside, but the flames were too intense and forced them out. Eventually the roof of the building collapsed.

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment.  The cause of the fire is not yet known.
