Omaha Police say 12 year old Katelyn Allen did everything right two weeks ago when an intruder kicked in her back door while she was home alone.
During an all school assembly at Westbrook Elementary on Wednesday, Omaha Police presented her with a medal and an award for her bravery and courage.
Katelyn says she was watching t.v.during spring break when she heard a loud bang at the back door. She locked herself in a bathroom, called 911 and remained calm as she climbed out a window to safety.
Katelyn says she had previously discussed with her parents what to do during a break in and encourages other kids to do the same.
She thanked Omaha Police and the 911 dispatchers for their assistance and her friends, teachers and school officials for their support.
