Investigators say careless smoking sparked a two-alarm apartment fire Thursday night. The fire broke out around 7:00 at the Vanderbilt Apartment complex near 111th and Decatur Plaza.

The first crews on the scene called for a second alarm to battle what was called a "rapidly advancing fire." It took approximately 45 minutes to get the flames under control

It caused an estimated $150,000 damage but no one was injured.  Several residents were assisted by the Red Cross.

Investigators say the careless disposal of smoking materials caused the fire.
