Bass Pro Shutting Down Operations In Sidney

The western Nebraska town of Sidney has received more bad economic news.

"Bass Pro has decided to close down the Cabela's distribution facility effective sometime in May," says Economic Development Director Melissa Norgaard. She says the move means about 125 jobs will be cut.

Bass Pro said employees will be given the opportunity to apply for other jobs within the company or receive severance and employment assistance.

Cabela's once employed around 2,000 people in Sidney before it was bought by Bass Pro Shops in 2017. The Cabela's merchandise return center in Oshkosh also is being closed and will result in the loss of 41 jobs.

"This action is being taken as a result of an extensive review of all Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s operations, including independent analysis by global logistics experts and shipping companies," the company said in a statement.
